How to Set Up a Voice Command Shortcut for Claude Desktop

Setting up a Claude Desktop voice command on my Mac lets me talk to Claude and get results in seconds. It’s changed how I interact with AI more than any single feature update. The shortcut is Option + C. I press it, say what I want, and Claude does the work.

Step-by-Step: Setting Up the Voice Shortcut

This is the exact setup I use on my Mac. Total time: about 2 minutes.

Step 1: Install Claude Desktop

If you don’t already have it, download Claude Desktop from Anthropic’s website. You need the desktop app for voice commands. The web browser version doesn’t support this feature.

Use Claude’s Skills Feature

I set up a skill that tells Claude how I want Excel files formatted.

When I trigger the voice shortcut:

• Claude reads the skill automatically

• Knows exactly how to structure the output

It takes some upfront setup—but saves time every single use.

Send Clean Screenshots

Make sure the document is clearly visible on your screen.

If the text is tiny or zoomed out:

• Results won’t be as clean

Zoom in on the section you want extracted before sending the screenshot.
